"Fallout 4," Bethesda's upcoming game, will be launched on PC, Sony's PS4 and Microsoft's Xbox One. Which company gets to have the exclusive?
None.
Publishers, oftentimes, arrange deals with the manufacturers of consoles for a timed exclusive release, which means that the DLC will be released on their platform ahead — typically 30 days or more — of their competitor. However, it seems that Bethesda will be making "Fallout 4" an exception.
Bethesda's VP of PR and Marketing, Pete Hines, confirmed this via Twitter, on Sunday, when a fan asked whether the DLC will come to Xbox One first.
"@XxThe5sGuyxX we aren't doing a DLC exclusive with anyone," Hines replied.
"Fallout 3" and "Fallout: New Vegas" was launched first in Xbox 360 and PC, with PS3 receiving the contents months after. "Skyrim" had the DLC packs exclusive to Xbox 360 for at least 30 days, according to Cinemablend.
There are speculations that Microsoft has not renewed the exclusive deal, especially when the head of Microsoft's Xbox division, Phil Spencer, said in a recent interview that third party exclusives were not part of their long-term strategy.
Meanwhile, "Fallout 4's" space requirement was released and according to some avid gamers, the file size is surprisingly small considering that it has more than 400 plus hours of gameplay, and features 111,000 lines for its dialogues.
The game listing on the Xbox store revealed that the new game will only require 28.12 GB. Although the game's file size in PlayStation 4 is not yet released, it can probably be assumed that it will not be much of a difference, as per the report of IGN.
Huge game file size usually causes trouble for console users with limited storage, but the compression techniques could have helped compact the game to a more economical size, Bidness ETC reported. This could avoid hassle — deleting some games to gain more free space — for the players.
"Fallout 4," one of the most highly-anticipated games of all time, will be released on Nov. 10.
