"Reign" fans have already waited long enough, so it's quite fortunate that Season 3 is already premiering next week. Ahead of The CW's pilot episode, showrunner Laurie McCarthy has dropped some interesting bits on the show's power couple, Mary and Francis.
Speaking with Entertainment Weekly about what fans can expect from Adelaid Kane and Toby Regbo's characters when "Reign" Season 3 premieres on The CW, McCarthy dished that a health crisis will be the moving force that would establish Mary and Francis' relationship.
McCarthy said, "I think he [Francis] and Mary will soon come to make decisions really believing that his time is limited, and what that's going to give you is an incredible poignancy to their relationship."
The showrunner also went on to explain, "And it's also going to light a fire under both of them to achieve some things and to maybe take some short cuts that they wouldn't otherwise take."
The change in the dynamics between Mary and Francis would be a product of Francis' realizations amid his health crisis. "Francis, unlike the previous seasons, is going to move forward believing that his death may be imminent and he will make decisions accordingly," McCarthy said.
Actor Toby Regbo has even revealed that there are scenes in "Reign" Season 3 involving his character that would definitely make show fans cry, Fashion & Style has learned.
"I can't tell you much, but I can tell you that we've shot a few scenes that are going to make you cry — and they're really, really good," Regbo was quoted as saying to fans via social media.
He added, "There's a dance in it. There's a dance that we filmed, and it's really lovely. It made everyone cry. You're going to cry."
Aside from Francis' health crisis, lives of other characters would be put at stake when "a mysterious presence" arrives at the French court. McCarthy teased that Bash and Delphine will be in deep trouble when this happens.
Finally, the relationship between Catherine and Narcisse will continue to intensify the controversial side of the series since Lola is still part of the picture, noted Design & Trend. The love triangle among the three is something that fans should also watch out for.
"Reign" Season 3 is set to premiere on Oct. 9, Friday. Tune in on The CW at 8 p.m. EDT on the said date, so you won't miss the pilot episode.
