Volvo recently announced its bold claim that it can go head to head with Tesla for hybrid and electronic vehicle supremacy.
As reported by Mashable, the Sweden-based car manufacturer thinks that the future of mobility is in electrification and hybridization. And while most car brands just want to offer a few electric or hybrid cars, Volvo is eager to push electrification across all of its vehicle segments.
Furthermore, the company plans to unveil its all-electric model that is expected to take on Tesla in 2019. The Volvo XC90, a full-size SUV, would be the company's first plug-in hybrid model that has an all-wheel drive and what they call a, "T8 Twin Engine" that features both a gasoline engine and an electric motor.
According to a report by the Independent, every new model of Volvo launches in the next half-decade will be available in a plug-in hybrid form.
And based on reports, the Swedish car manufacturer has an interesting advantage in this war over electric vehicles because it already has existing car models that all it has to do, is make those same cars just with hybrid or electric option.
In a related report by Energy and Capital, Volvo proudly claims that it can compete with Tesla saying they will match the impressive range of over 300 miles and the $35,000 price range of Tesla's upcoming Model 3.
Also, the company believes that the period between 2020 and 2025 will finally be the era in which electric vehicles will gain mass market acceptance.
According to company CEO Hakan Samuelsson, "The time has come for electric cars to cease being a niche technology and enter the mainstream. We are confident that by 2020, 10% of Volvo's global sales will be electrified cars."
Apart from Volvo, Tesla will also find competition against Audi since the German car company also announced its intent to create eco-friendly cars.
