Bobby Valentine says he felt undermined by Red Sox coaches
Red Sox manager Bobby Valentine claims that he was not sufficiently supported by some of his coaches and that they lacked confidence in him. Such undermining, as he asserts, contributed to the tension and unease of the New York Yankees final game of the regular season Wednesday night. In retrospect, Valentine respectfully was sorry for the injurious comments he made about Kevin Youkillis in April.
General manager Ben Cherington would not discuss the status of the Red Sox's beleaguered first-year manager before Boston's season finale against the New York Yankees on Wednesday night. "I'm not going to talk about it," Cherington said. "We have a game tonight. We've said many times, Bobby's the manager of the team until the end of the year, and we'll talk about it after the season. That's what we'll do."
We will have to wait until the season is over to hear from the general manager, Ben Cherington regarding tthe details of Valentine's position. Meanwhile, we know that Valentine has one more season on his contract and that his performance will be monitored and evaluated by team officials.
