The sing-song saying "Sticks and Stones may break my bones but words may never hurt me" may not resound so well with WKBT News 8 anchor, Jennifer Livingston. A male viewer and lawyer, Kenneth W. Krause commented on how Jennifer was not a good role model because of her obesity.

"It's unusual that I see your morning show, but I did so for a very short time today," he said. "I was surprised indeed to witness that your physical condition hasn't improved for many years. Surely you don't consider yourself a suitable example for this community's young people, girls in particular."

He went on saying that, "Obesity is one of the worst choices a person can make and one of the most dangerous habits to maintain. I leave you this note hoping that you'll reconsider your responsibility as a local public personality to present and promote a healthy lifestyle."

Jennifer's brother, Ron Livingston came to her defense following distasteful criticism regarding her weight.

"My sister Jennifer ... brings an exceptional dedication to her job, her family, and her community," the 45-year-old actor said in a statement on Wednesday, October 3. He added, "[She] has been a role model of mine for many, many years."

Jennifer's plan was to simply ignore the comment. However, her husband Mike Thompson was unconvinced that her humble strategy was appropriate given the circumstances. He posted on Facebook: "Seriously, the fact that there are people out there like this (and I understand this person is a lawyer in town) makes me sick to my stomach."

Kenneth was a lawyer whose position carries weight and his comment was one which cut deep into Jennifer and could plant injurious impressions into the minds of viewers watching the show.

Jennifer decided to speak for herself saying that, "The truth is, I am overweight," she said. "You could call me fat, even obese, on a doctor's chart. But, to the person who wrote me that letter, do you think I don't know that? That your cruel words are pointing out something I don't see?"

"You don't know me. You are not a friend of mine, you are not a part of my family and you have admitted that you don't watch this show, so you know nothing about me but what you see on the outside. And I am much more than a number on a scale."

Jennifer has the support of her family, friends and fans, men and women to combat the targeting of overweight persons. During this timely event which occurred in October, Anti-Bullying Month, has spurred Jennifer to begin community related work to fight against bullying. Jennifer has not been alone in the bullying of even normal weight and overweight women, such as Jennifer Love Hewitt, Christina Aguilera and the more recent Lady Gaga. Ironically, the bullies are hardly self-reflective and critical of their own actions and words and neither those of who uphold the monolith, static image of a runway model-thin figure. Watch the video below to see Jennifer's eloquent and humble response to the critique which infringed upon her human dignity and unashamedly encroached upon the public's sensibilities and diversity.
