The children of the late Casey Kasem have been revealed to have filed a new case against their stepmother, Jean Kasem. The brother of the "American Top 40" host, Mouner, also joined in the filing of the case, to seek justice for the alleged wrongful death of Casey.
With all the evidence in their hands, they are crying foul and blaming Kasem's widow for his "horrible" demise. They claim that her actions led to the deterioration of the host's health which ultimately resulted to his passing in 2014.
Kerri, Michael and Julie went to court on Wednesday because they believed that Jean mistreated their dad while he was sick. The kids cited physical abuse and negligence in their claims and demanding $250,000 for damages.
In the 28-page suit, the family narrated Kasem's condition in his last days. Details of his ailments were also listed and the narratives are all meant to prove that the award-winning host died due to abuse and negligence on the part of their stepmother.
One of the family's allegations is that Casey was in stable condition before his wife took him on a trip to three places including Santa Monica, California and Washington. When they returned, his health declined dramatically. The children found that he developed severe bed sores which got infected.
They further alleged that months before their dad died, Jean left him in different hospitals even though he was cleared to be discharged. The children stated that his happened not once but many times.
The siblings suit states, "Casey's early death occurred as a direct and proximate result of Jean's neglect and physical abuse of Casey."
At any rate, in his death certificate, it was indicated that Casey died of complications from staph infection, UTI and sepsis. He was also said to be suffering from dementia at the time of his death.
This case is actually the third one filed by Casey's children since he died. They already filed a complaint in 2014 for elder abuse and LAPD investigated the widow last year. The second case was a dispute on the $2 million life insurance policy where the siblings won.
Now, the children were disappointed with the court's decision not to charge Jean and this pushed them to file this new civil suit. On suing Jean, Kerri Kasem was quoted as saying, "We would rather see her in jail than receive one dime. We don't care about the money. We care about justice. What she did to my father is reprehensible. It's disgusting. It's horrific."
She also stated on The Wrap, "Our family was devastated by the District Attorney's decision not to prosecute Jean Kasem for the horrible abuse suffered by my father. It will now be up to a civil jury to determine that Jean should be responsible for her actions. Elder abuse is a serious issue that we as a society cannot turn a blind eye to."
Lastly, the Kasem family is mad at Jean for burying Casey in Norway despite his wish to be laid to rest in LA. They said that they believed that their stepmother did this so that investigations would be difficult.
