Have a sweet tooth? Then you will love today, October 20th, 2012 as it is coined the “Sweetest Day.” So go ahead and indulge! It may be among the lesser known days or celebrations such as Valentine’s Day or Halloween but Sweetest Day has been up and running since October 8th, 1921. It started in Cleveland, Ohio when candymaker and philanthropist C. C. Hartzell gave out over 20 000 boxes of candy to the public, particularly marginalized persons like the elderly and orphans and the poor.
Since then it has transformed into a holiday where people give out sugar loaded candies and gifts to their loved ones. It is a day to remember the sidelined groups in society, the orphaned, poor, elderly shut-ins and the sick.
It is not meant to be romantic yet it is likewise associated with heart-shaped boxes, pink red and candy similar to Valentin’e Day. You can also go out to dinner, restaurants and give chocolate and greeting cards. Hallmark markets Sweetest Day greeting cards.
