Cunningham Shaves Against Domestic Violence
By Staff Reporter | Nov 03, 2012 04:55 PM EDT
Hawaii television station KHON2 anchor Jai Cunningham lived up to this promise on Wednesday. He shaves his head for every time a woman or child became the fatal victim of domestic violence over the upcoming year.
"In the past I've talked about domestic violence and how it transcends race, age, all things. I didn't know what to do and I've talked a number of times, I've walked a number of times. This morning I hope to shock you," he said in a YouTube video that now has over 150,000 views.
He also confided that he called in a co-worker who shaved his head at the same time discussing the domestic violence he was subject to along with his brother and mother. Domestic violence is a plague of abuse in all societies crossing nationality, class, gender and sexual orientation. It is a matter which needs to be seriously addressed and have stereotypes and myths dispelled.
"Unfortunately I am going to probably do this 6 to 8 times. I want this to serve as a reminder that domestic violence is real, it happens everyday and it happens to people like Heather Rosa," he said.
Cunningham is calling for readers to be aware and participate in his cause, according to MSN Australia.
