Rachel McAdams has had her name on the Doctor Strange masterlist for a while but it is not known what her role in the much awaited Marvel film will be. Speculations surround McAdams as playing the Night Nurse or the alter ego of the comic book character Linda Carter. Now, those speculations will be put to rest.
McAdams, known for her work in Mean Girls and The Notebook, will now play a vital role in Marvel's new Doctor Strange film.
Kevin Feige stated in an interview with EW that the actress' part is a co-surgeon. She (the character) particularly has a history with Dr. Stephen Strange. Feige calls her as a lynchpin to his old life when he became a sorcerer. He goes on to say that...
She is someone he connects with at the beginning, and reconnects with, and helps anchor his humanity.
Although fans still say this statement is a bit vague to specifically describe what McAdam's role will be but it is clear that this character will have a romantic attachment or relationship with Dr. Strange which is to be played by Benedict Cumberbatch.
Other reports have theorized that McAdams will still play the Night Nurse, but as an updated version of the comic book vixen. Night Nurse is a love interest of Dr. Strange in the Marvel Universe.
Stephen Broussard, the film's executive producer, is obviously excited with having McAdam's on board, saying:
Rachel McAdams is sort of [Doctor Strange's] contemporary in the modern-day New York world, before and after he goes on this crazy journey. So, she sees him before, she sees him after. She's kind of this audience point of view.
Marvel fans can't wait for things to get official but for now everyone would just need to wait until Doctor Strange hits theaters on November 4, as posted online.
