World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) and 2K announced last Thursday that a deal has been made giving the latter the exclusive rights to develop and publish WWE video games. The deal has a multiyear extension.

A statement, published through Take Two Interactive's website, stated that the agreement between 2K and WWE "allows for the usage of the wrestling's company's names, logos, and character likenesses for video games released on all major platforms and distribution channels."

This partnership has forged an annual success with the WWE 2K flagship series. It has also resulted to the birth of a now-popular mobile game, the WWE SuperCard. This game is currently celebrating its success with more than nine million downloads.

2K COO David Ismailer said, "2K's partnership with WWE over the past three years has resulted in a successful and important addition to the Company's portfolio of profitable franchises. We are thrilled with the positive momentum of the WWE 2K series, including generating year-over-year growth, as well as the success of WWE SuperCard. We are very pleased to extend our partnership with WWE and look forward to many more years of collaboration."

The continued partnership between WWE and 2K is financially great for both of the companies involved.

In another report, WWE 2K16 is said to have sold around 2.25 million copies as of early January.

With this agreement, fans are hoping that both companies would invest more time and money to "making the video game franchise the best in the sports genre."

Later this year, wrestling fans will hopefully be in for another treat as WWE 2K17 will be released as 2K's third year in developing WWE's flagship game. The companies still have a lot of time to figure out how to come up with the best-working version thus far. Let us just hope for the best, fingers crossed.
