Hearing pieces of advice from random people is not bad at all - but knowing that those words came from the likes of Steve Jobs and Bill Gates, it is without a doubt proven, knowing what these men went through to be able to reach the heights of their career. Here are some of them:
1. Maya Angelou: "Make your own path."
An author, poet and civil rights activist, Angelou has published seven autobiographies, three books of essays, and as well as books of poetry.
2. J.K. Rowling: "Embrace failure."
Best known as the author of the Harry Potter series, Rowling went through a lot of hardships before getting her work published. While battling depression, she would roam around the city just to find café's where she could write.
3. Diane von Furstenberg: "Keep it real."
Furstenberg, a fashion designer, told Adam Bryant of The New York Times that she believes that in order to trust yourself, you have to have a relationship with yourself. You also have to be hard on yourself, but not delusional.
4. Rick Goings: "Be nice to everyone."
The chairman and executive of Tupperware Brands Corporation shares that he thinks how you treat others means the world.
5. John Chen: "Being a 'superstar' can hurt your career."
The BlackBerry CEO wrote in a LinkedIn post that most employees think the best way to show value to their boss is to claim ownership with aggression, which he said is not true. While it is important, it can also turn off your boss.
6. Bill Gates: "Keep things simple."
The Microsoft cofounder and chairman admires people who have the ability of keeping things simple.
7. Steve Jobs: "Don't just follow your passion but something larger than yourself."
The cofounder, chairman, and chief executive officer of Apple Inc. also believes that being the richest man in the cemetery doesn't matter, but going to bed at night knowing he's done something wonderful is what matters to him.
