The publisher of the tabloid that is being sued by Hollywood actor Tom Cruise is reportedly firing back at the Jack Reacher star’s lawsuit against them. Cruise sued “Life & Style” and their sister company, “In Touch,” after the tabloids published a story saying that he had reportedly abandoned his daughter, Suri, after getting divorced from his ex-wife, Katie Holmes.
As a response to the defamation lawsuit filed by Cruise last October, Bauer Publishing Co. says that the story it’s reporting is “substantially true.” The publishing company also states that it should not be held accountable for any of the damages incurred since, according to them, some or most of the complaints that have been filed by Cruise are either “true or substantially true”.
Bauer also stated that Cruise has have no proof that he is suffering from any form of compensable damage due to the statements made by the defendants from Bauer. Cruise’s legal defense called the stories as nothing more than just “disgusting and vicious lies” that are aimed at destroying the character of Tom Cruise.
Cruise and actress Katie Holmes were married in 2006, but ended up getting divorced last July 2012 after six years of marriage.
