Have you heard that being a data scientist is now officially the best job in the United States?
What is a data scientist? It is an analytical profession that focuses on solving real world problems. It's not just sitting in a room all day and looking at numbers.
Greg Gordon from Kronos explains that being a data scientist means they focus on solving customer problems. They interact with customers and gather data about real problems, replicate then solve them.
It might sound easy but companies are currently in the market finding the most talented data scientist that can help them unlock secrets and problems that can be fixed.
According to a recent study from Glassdoor, they have officially announced that being a data scientist is the best job in America because these employees are being paid highly, treated well and offered career advancement.
According to Bernard Marr, a data expert and author of "Key Business Analytics: The 60+ Business Analysis Tools Every Manager Needs To Know", their kind of talent is crucial to a business' success because data and analytics is the big trend right now. Being analytically driven is a gifted skill. The title is similar for most companies and is sometimes synonymous with report analysts and data gatherers, the job itself is varied business to business.
So is it better than being a rockstar or an astronaut? For Mark Schwarz, VP of data science at Square Root, he says he loves his job but agrees that it's not for everyone. He further explains that it's a messy job because "...data science organizations spend 80% of their time cleaning and preparing data and 20% moving it to be actionable."
Data science is a profitable field for analytical professionals. If you're analytically inclined, then this could be the job for you.
