Israel had voiced some doubts about the accuracy of reports from Syrian activists concerning the alleged use of deadly gas against rebel fighters who are looking to overthrow President Bashar Assad. Israel also stated that this is not the first time they have heard some reports from the opposition. During an interview with Army Radio, Vice Prime Minister Moshe Yaalon said that the opposition might be interested in intentionally trying to draw in some intervention from the world’s military forces.

The reports of the gas attack came from the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights. They had gathered their information from activist accounts on an alleged attack on the city of Homs. However, due to the Syrian government’s heavy restrictions on the media, these reports have been extremely difficult to verify. According to the Observatory’s report, six rebel fighters were killed after they had inhaled smoke during a battle in the city of Homs.

It said that it wants an investigation to be called in since it cannot confirm the fact that poison gas had indeed been used.

After being asked about the images showing victims being treated for what could be possible gas poisoning, Yaalon said that he is not sure whether or not what he is seeing is indeed the result of poison gas.
