Republican and Democratic governors meeting on Sunday in Washington agreed that the looming billions in budget cuts, known as sequestration, will drive up unemployment and harm the economy. Governors were in the Capitol city for the yearly National Governors Association meeting.

Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker said that all governors were "concerned" over the inability of Congress to strike a deal at this late juncture.

Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal called on President Obama to show leadership on the issue, asking him to "step up to the plate."

The budget cuts have wide-ranging implications if enacted. Most agree that the net result will be harmful to the nation and the recovering economy. National security will also be affected, as defense spending is also scheduled to be cut.

Negotiations are hitting roadblocks due to disagreements between Republicans and Democrats over taxes and entitlements. Without a new budget in place, the sequestration will take effect this week.

Other issues mentioned include job development, state economies, gun control and the health care law implementation.
