The average job search lasts about three to nine months; however there is no rule that says you can't get a job in just seven days. Yes, it sounds difficult - and very demanding - but there is no reason you shouldn't try it. The way people search for jobs has changed dramatically over the years as well. Whereas in the past you used to mail your resume directly to the employer, today you send off your online resume to the employer's email inbox.

Take the uncertainty out of your job search process by following these 7 steps:

Day 1: Do your research

Decide exactly what you want and start your week off by researching the companies on your wish list. This includes visiting job sites such as Indeed, CareerBuilder, SimplyHired, Monster and others that offer job listings. While you are at it, you can also register your CV on sites such as CV Library and wait for it to get matched with suitable job openings. Learn everything you can about the company and the interviewer. Thanks to the internet, there is a wealth of information available about companies and the individuals who work for them.

Day 2: Work on Your Resume

Make sure you are paying attention to keywords and adjusting your career summary to better suit the description of the position.

Day 3: Networking

In his article on LinkedIn, Lou Adler, CEO and Founder of The Alder Group, pays particular attention to the very last part - networking - and comments on the effectiveness of this approach saying that:

"The best way to do this is to find people who can fully vouch for you to refer you to some of their close associates. You'll need to meet these people, and ask them to refer you to their associates. If you do this a few times you'll soon have about 40-50 people in your network. Once your network gets this big you'll start hearing about job opportunities in the hidden job market."

Day 4: Check Your Online Presence

Since employers will search for you on Google and will come across your Facebook and Twitter profiles, you will need to remove evidence of any inappropriate content from the sites including selfies, drunk photos, or anything that could make you look bad.

Day 5: Vamp up your outfits

You never get a second chance to make a first impression. Take a weekend to shop around for an outfit that projects professionalism and says that your serious about getting this job.

Day 7: Set Your Goals

The last day of your job search plan should be spent on setting your goals for next week. With or without a job offer, you will need to decide what your next move is going to be, and continue working on getting yourself out there and networking your way to your next job
