Executive producer Caroline Dries talked about "The Vampire Diaries" season 7. In an interview with Collider, the "TVD" boss was asked about the future of the series and whether or not Nina Dobrev will reprise her role as Elena Gilbert. Dries also discussed Damon's exit from the Phoenix stone.
"What that means is that, even though Damon has escaped Hell, so to speak, figuratively he's left, but emotionally and psychologically, when you exit the Phoenix stone, you're a changed person," she said. "The decisions that you make, as a result of that, don't necessarily reflect the decisions you would have made, before you go in there... It's like Damon's Hell on Earth now, moving forward."
"The Vampire Diaries" season 7 is the first season without Nina Dobrev, who portrays Elena Gilbert. Caroline Dries admitted that keeping Dobrev's character is a "total challenge" and has been "Damon's touchstone" for his decisions in the show.
"No. I would say that, if The CW called today and was like, 'By the way, Season 7 is the last season,' then I think we would scramble to make sure that she was in the finale," Dries said about the possibility of Dobrev's return to "TVD." "But as of right now, we're acting like the show will go on, so no."
Meanwhile, HollywoodLife.com reported that Ian Somerhalder's character in "The Vampire Diaries" season 7 has hooked up with a new beautiful woman. Apparently, Damon found the lady who threw him the stake that he used to defeat Julian and hooked up with her after "staring deeply in her eyes."
According to EW's recap of "The Vampire Diaries" season 7 episode 12, entitled "Postcards from the Edge," Damon may have still thought about Elena after the woman kissed him. However, he still went ahead and hooked up with the lady.
The publication noted that the issue is on the identity of the woman and what she wants from Damon Salvatore.
