Heartthrob Johnny Depp shows his never-ending appeal by snagging a Favorite Movie Actor award at Kids' Choice Awards 2013. The actor was recognized at the event sponsored by Nickelodeon at the USC Galen Center. A record 350 million voted on their favorite celebrities through the internet.

Always a good sport, Depp shook hands with fans and accepted the award graciously. Other contenders were The Amazing Spier-Man's Andrew Garfield, Men in Black 3's Will Smith, and Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Dog Days' Zachary Gordon.

In Dark Shadows, the movie for which Depp was recognized, the actor plays a playboy named Barnabas Collins who is transformed into a vampire by his spurned lover Angelique Bouchard (Eva Green), who happens to be a witch. Barnabas is found centuries later encased in a coffin, and he returns to find his mansion run by dysfunctional descendants, and discovers his former lover has taken over the family business.

Although the movie seems a bit dark for younger audiences, it seems like the actor's performance still won over many young hearts and fans. The award should bring a sense of vindication for the actor, since the film received mixed reviews. Although the storyline was panned by some critics, overall it seems fans had a good time watching Dark Shadows.

Depp continues to prove he is a unique and talented actor who can take on quirky roles for films such as Edward Scissorhands and Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas. His edgy performances have won him fans across the globe, and it seems his appeal has crossed over now even to a new generation of fans. His latest win demonstrates that good acting never grows old.

The 49-year-old actor also stars in The Lone Ranger, which will be released this year. Here's to another successful year, and perhaps another win for Favorite Movie Actor at next year's Kids' Choice Awards.
