Pond Circles In New York, Are UFOs To Blame?

Usually it's the appearance of crop circles in the news that drives the never-ending debate about whether aliens have visited planet Earth. This time, though, it's pond circles that have people scratching their heads.

While the internet is currently buzzing about an FBI memo that seems to prove that aliens really did land in Roswell, another phenomenon in Eden, N.Y. has local presidents perplexed.

It all started during a snowstorm last Friday, when Eden resident Peggy Gervase glanced out at a pond near her home. What she saw immediately made her do a double take. Strange, very large circles where no snow was collecting had formed on the ice.

"I've never seen this before in our pond," Gervase told a local T.V. station, WGRZ. "It's eerie in a way, but cool in a way."

She immediately snapped a photograph of this very odd sight and soon posted it to the station's Facebook page. The photography instantly took off as residents pondered what could be causing these pond circles. Opinions ranged from fish flatulence, to elephant footprints, and of course, aliens.

"I'm not that far gone yet," she quipped to the station. It's not immediately known which theory she was referencing, but chances are high she meant all of them.

Naturally, there are far more logical explanation than a random elephant living in New York or fish farts causing geometrical patterns. Natural springs could be under the surface, heating those specific areas just enough to cause circles to form. Then again, Gervase has already claimed that she'd never seen this before, so that theory seems unlikely.

Another theory notes that in areas of permafrost, circles are known to appear in soil through a process known as frost heaving. Ice expands underneath the surface, often times creating a circular mound that can grow to be quite tall. Unfortunately, however, this phenomenon is occurring on a pond, and so again, the theory seems implausible.

It is entirely likely that nobody will be able to definitively say what is causing the pond circles in Eden, N.Y. Rest assured though, that until they do, UFO conspiracy theorists will point to these pond formations as yet another example of why we are not alone in this universe.
