Instagram Algorithm Change Is Still In Testing Stage; Photo Sharing Site Following Facebook's Footsteps?

Users are in an uproar after news broke about Instagram's alleged new algorithm change. While it proves to be an uncomfortable move for users of the photo sharing site, reports are claiming that there is no need to panic, at least for now.
Fader reached out to Instagram about the issue at hand, and a rep for the company assured worried users that the algorithm change will not happen today as some have claimed. "This is not being implemented tomorrow-we still have weeks, or even months, of testing to go," the spokesperson said via email. "Currently the test groups are very small. When we roll it out broadly, we will definitely let the community know."
The change although familiar has been frowned upon this early because of the posts getting sorted by an algorithm, instead of them appearing chronologically. Facebook has adopted the same algorithmic approach with users' posts and Time argued that it has not been a big problem.
"Will the change actually hurt Instagram? Probably not," the article noted. "Facebook, the world's biggest social network (and Instagram's owner since 2012), has long used an algorithm to serve up content it thinks users will be more interested in."
"Changes to Facebook's newsfeed-what users see when they log in-used to illicit similarly strong objections but, lately, fewer seem to mind. And the change hasn't dinged Facebook's growth-a billion people check the site every day," the outlet continued.
