Did you know that your job can actually make you physically sick? That a study recently published in the journal Psychosomatic Medicine came up with the result that high job demands can increase risk of developing Type 2 diabetes by 45 percent. Monster helps you identify if your work might be making you sick.
Stress causes the body to act strange. A lot of health problems stem from stress - even the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention says that the risk of injury and disease goes up with the rise of long stretches of job stress.
Stress is also linked to chronic health problems like cardiovascular disease, musculoskeletal issues and psychological problems. This doesn't help with healthcare costs either.
A regular employee turned health coach says he suffered from chronic health issues and ongoing illnesses that led to sinus infections. It stemmed from poor nutrition and lifestyle habits he practiced - and he gained weight from eating out too much and not cooking for himself
Employees might not have time for exercise, good sleep and home-cooked meals. As a result, workers may suffer from high blood-pressure, inadequate nutrition and insomnia - which can go on to cause even bigger health problems.
The chief podiatrist at NYC Podiatry Center of Excellence, Dr. Isaac Tabari also says that foot health issues are a common ailment related to over working. These problems include joint inflammation, pain, stress fractures and plantar fasciitis. These usually stem from standing on the feet for too long or working on hard surfaces.
And physical sickness isn't all that takes a toll on employees. Psychologists who work with senior executives in demanding, high-intensity positions claim that the stress faced by people on the job can lead to problems like compromised immune systems that make workers vulnerable to condition that result in severe nerve damage.
Work stress can also cause anxiety and panic attacks.
