At 2:50am on Memorial Day, a fire broke out on the Royal Caribbean ship Grandeur of the Seas on its way to Bahamas. The fire lasted 2 hours and was extinguished at around 5am.

The 2224 sleepy passenger and 796 crew members on board were confirmed safe in a statement by Royal Caribbean.

The fire swept through the third and fourth deck, damaging the ship that has just been renovated for nearly 50 million dollars.

No injuries were reported, and the cruise line has arranged for flights for all passengers to fly from Bahamas back to the U.S.

As the captain of the ship announced the fire, room attendants knocked doors of staterooms and called out the passengers, asking them to remove their flotation devices.

Some of the passengers were reported to have vomited and were "freaking out," as CNN mentioned.

The passengers were then taken to their muster station, to wait there until the fire has been put out. Air conditioning were shut off due to smoke and the ship was warmed up. Passengers received bottled water and were helped by the crew if any need arose. Parents were able to use the bathrooms when they needed to, the crews took care of the babies and provided them with formula.

The passengers has been promised full refunds of their trip fare, and a voucher for a future cruise. The seven day trip had been shortened into three days due to this incident.

Burned out equipment was visible from the rear of the ship. It is possible that the fire was due to engine problems.
