An 8-year-old's death in a Californian 7-children home has placed her 12-year-old brother on trial Wednesday, May 29. He has denied guilty in the tragic incident.
The incident happened April 27th, 2013, when authorities found the 8-year-old Leila Fowler stabbed 21 times to death after a supposed "intruder" broke in. Her 12-year-old brother claimed that a tall man with long grey hair ran away from the scene.
The police spent 2000 man-hours in 15 days to search door-to-door to find the culprit. Even divers were sent to explore the reservoirs near the scene.
However, the second witness that supported his story recanted her statement to law enforcement, which caused his arrest. Since no adults were present at the scene, the police concluded that he may be a suspect.
At a candlelight vigil for his 8-year-old sister, he states, "I'm not saying goodbye to Leila. I'm saying 'See you later.' There are no goodbyes."
The family has decided to stand alongside the distraught older brother. The father and his fiancé now has 6 children living in their custody. The Leila's mother was reportedly homeless last year.
