The 39-year-old Penelope Cruz, known in her native country as the "Spanish enchantress," had been rumored to be casting in Bond 24 and become the next and oldest Bond girl in the history of the series.
Bond 24, aptly named being the 24th film in the series, has been casted to include Penelope Cruz, who recently played the main female protagonist in Vanilla Sky with Tom Cruise, reported in UK tabloids.
The 39-year-old actress will turn 40 next summer. The film itself might hit cinemas in late 2014 or early 2015.
The Spanish Enchantress will take the title of oldest Bond girl from Honor Blackman, who was a British actress, 39 when she emerged in Goldfinger as Pussy Galore in 1962.
Cruz is a future mother-of-two, with a 2-year-old son named Leo, and is due to give birth in the very near future.
Cruz's husband was also casted in the Bond series. In Skyfall he was the master villain. Some claim that he is opposed to his wife's casting in the next film.
The previous film, Skyfall, became the highest-grossing film worldwide for Sony Pictures, earning $1.1 billion worldwide.
