Prince Rogers Nelson, most popularly known as Prince, died Thursday at age 57. He was a great electric virtuoso who wrote massive music hits such as "Let's Go Crazy," "Purple Rain," and "Kiss." Nelson is also known for his fight for creative freedom in the music industry.
The music industry is already feeling its great loss with the passing of this legendary music icon
.
"It is with profound sadness that I am confirming that the legendary, iconic performer, Prince Rogers Nelson, has died at his Paisley Park residence this morning," said Yvette Noel-Schure, Prince's publicist.
Police said on Thursday that they were investigating a death at the same location in Chanhassen, Minnesota. A call for medical help came from the residence and when the police arrived, they found the singer in an elevator already unresponsive, according to Jim Olson, Carver County Sheriff.
Prince phenomenal singing career had made him a very wealthy man and which gave the music industry a veritable golden goose. At the time of his death, his personal net worth was $300 million, according to Celebrity Net Worth.
It is yet unclear where and to whom this great wealth will go to after his passing.
But he is known as a member of the Jehovah's Witness, a religious group whose members are not required to give tithes but only to give voluntary donations.
He attended JW meetings regularly and was known to occasionally knock on people's door to witness about his faith. The singer had reportedly required a hip replacement surgery for more than a decade but declined the procedure since his faith forbade blood transfusions.
The music industry feels the great loss of an icon that brings it massive amount of cash.
Clive Davis, the record producer who released "Rave Un2 the Joy Fantastic on Arista Records in 1999 said "Prince was peerless as a musician, performer and songwriter. The world of music has tragically lost one of its greatest defining members."
