Ted Cruz, in an attempt to rise up from the rubbles, has chosen Carly Fiorina as his vice presidential running mate.
Cruz has lost in five states and has continued to lag behind Donald Trump. However, 24 hours later, the senator who hails from Texas did a surprising move for an underdog by announcing his running mate.
According to the Washington Post, "[f]acing a must-win situation against Trump in next Tuesday's Indiana primary, Cruz is trying one unorthodox maneuver after another in hopes of extending the race and forcing a contested Republican convention in Cleveland - his only hope for becoming the nominee."
Cruz introduced Fiorina as his running mate during a rally held in Indianapolis. Cruz pointed out and emphasized Fiorina's exchanges with Trump as well as Fiorina's personal struggles and challenges. "One of the great principles of bullies - they feed off of fear," Cruz said. "They feed off of people who will cower in the corner when they yell and scream and insult and holler and curse, and they don't know what to do when a strong, powerful woman stands up and says, 'I'm not afraid.'"
Cruz said that his running mate is careful, measured, and serious.
Meanwhile, Fiorina supported Cruz argument, saying that they both have similar views and that alone is a good reason for their tandem to work. "Ted could not be more right in what he said: There is a lot at stake, and in fact, this is a fight, this is a fight for the soul of our party and the future of our nation," Fiorina said. "I've had tough fights all my life. Tough fights don't worry me a bit."
On the other hand, Trump called the move by Cruz as a "desperate attempt," CNN reports. Trump also referred to Cruz as an "all talk, no action politician."
Trump also posted a video tweet of Fiorina criticizing Cruz in the early part of the year. He captioned it with one word: Agreed!
