One of America's favorite cookies has released a brand new flavor. Watermelon Oreos have caused quite a stir amongst the general public, creating a large divide among the brand's faithful buyers.

Watermelon Oreos are Nabisco's newest limited edition cookie flavor. There is no actual watermelon listed in the cookie's ingredients, yet Nabisco has managed to create a taste similar to watermelon for its icing. To make it more reminiscent of the quintessential summer fruit, Nabisco has dyed the signature black and white cream cookie and red and green color. Kimberly Fontes, spokeswoman for Oreo, said, "We chose watermelon because it is a fun, summer flavor that goes great with the golden Oreo cookie."

Multitudes of cookie consumers have taken to social media outlets to voice their opinions of the newly concocted Watermelon Oreo. A Twitter user by the name of @JunkFoodGuy noted its unappealing smell, saying that the cookie reeked of artificial flavoring. Another buyer tweeted, "I looked up 'abomination against nature' in the dictionary and there was a picture of watermelon oreos." Others have gone so far as to suggest that Watermelon Oreos carry seemingly racist undertones. One Twitter user commented, "Watermelon Oreos? America has to stop with the stereotype borderline racist flavors... This is enough."

KPRC Local 2, a television news station based in Houston, TX, asked fans on Facebook if they would buy a package of Watermelon Oreos. The post was shared over 600 times and received nearly 400 comments. Results concluded that for the fans of KPRC Local 2, Watermelon Oreos were not a crowd favorite. Many comments included the word "Eww."
