It is said that boys will be boys. And nowadays, what do regular boys love to do? Video games are high up on that list. The boy in a relatively unknown short film known as "The Present" is exactly the same. And not only that, he just hates it when his mom gets in his way. But how about a puppy? Will this little bundle of joy be enough to change his mind?
SF Gate reported that the short film is based on a comic book strip by Brazilian artist Fabio Coala Cavalcanti. In here, the boy is quickly amused by the cute puppy, a gift by his mother to him-but his amusement quickly turns south when he realizes that the puppy only has three legs.
He is disgusted by the puppy and immediately tosses him on the carpet while saying, "Get lost!" But the puppy, clearly not affected, goes on to play with a red ball he found while exploring his new home's living room. And the boy? Besides himself he is growing affectionate towards all the positive energy.
The film, hosted on Vimeo, is not even five minutes long with ending credits included. What it does have, however, is one story so simple it touches the hearts of every one who watches it. And it is not just viewers who were so floored by the story. To date, "The Present" has won 59 awards from award-giving bodies all over the world, including Canada, Italy, Portugal, the US, South Korea, among others.
"The Present" is actually a graduation project of Jacob Frey and Markus Kranzler in 2014 while they were still students at Filmakademie Baden-Wuerttemberg in Ludwigsburg, Germany. The talent of these guys were also quick to be noticed by major studios. Frey is now with Walt Disney Animation Studios and Kranzler is now with Pixar Animation Studios.
Without further ado, please ready your heart and enjoy "The Present":
