Two bodies were discovered at the Dreyfoos School of the Arts in West Palm Beach Wednesday morning.
The bodies were found by a school employee. Fire Rescue and police teams responded to the scene just before 6:30 A.M. on Wednesday. A SWAT team was called as a precautionary measure, according to West Palm Beach Police spokesman Capt. David Bernhardt in a press conference. Police have not identified the names of the two victims, but Palm Beach County School District officials have confirmed that one of the people found dead is a custodian at the school. Bernhardt said the bodies were found in some sort of maintenance or supply facility. In order to recover the bodies, police officials entered a rear window of the school building.
The cause of death remains unclear and police are treating the case as an open death investigation. There have been no signs of crime or foul play. Bernhardt claims that there is no active threat. "It could turn out to be a homicide investigation later on," he said, "It could just be a normal death investigation."
Dreyfoos had its graduation in May, so school was no longer in session. However, it is unclear if summer classes were scheduled. The discovery of the bodies has caused alarm in the community. One former student was appalled at one of the bodies being that of a Dreyfoos school custodian, saying "I can't believe this is happening at my school. This is stuff that you only see in the news like somewhere in Connecticut or in another state but I can't imagine this happening at my school right now."
