During a videotaped deposition on May 17, Paula Deen admitted to using the N-word and making insensitive racist jokes.

Deen is currently being sued for $1.2 million along with her brother. The former general manager of their Savannah, GA restaurant, Lisa Jackson, is accusing the celebrity chef of using the N-word. Jackson also claims that Deen's brother, Bubba Hiers, inflicted distress and sexually harassed her.

While being videotaped, Deen admitted to using the N-word. She was questioned for three hours and openly acknowledged that she had used the offensive term. 'Yes, of course," she said. Deen gave examples of the sort of the jokes in which she used the racist term, but was quick to justify her reasons for doing so. "It's just what they are - they're jokes...most jokes are about Jewish people, rednecks, black folks...I can't determine what offends another person," she said.

Jackson also said that Deen wanted African-American employees to act like slaves for a big wedding that she was planning. Deen explained that she got the idea from a restaurant where "the whole entire waiter staff was middle-aged black men, and they had on beautiful white jackets with a black bow tie," according to the Enquirer. She also tried to defend this by saying, "I mean, it was really impressive. That restaurant represented a certain era in America...after the Civil War, during the Civil War, before the Civil War...It was not only black men, it was black women...I would say they were slaves."

Some other comments were reportedly made in 2007, when Deen appointed Jackson to handle the catering and staff for her brother's wedding. When she asked Deen about the servers' attire, Deen answered, "Well what I would really like is a bunch of little n***ers to wear long-sleeve white shirts, black shorts and black bow ties, you know in the Shirley Temple days, they used to tap dance around... Now, that would be a true Southern wedding wouldn't it? But we can't do that because the media would be on me about that." Hiers was also accused of using the N-word in regards to President Barack Obama.

Deen's reps were reached for comment, but they have yet to respond.
