George R.R. Martin has released a new chapter from the highly-anticipated "Winds of Winter." There is still no official announcement regarding the book's release date.
TIME reported that the "Song of Ice and Fire" author released the excerpt on Tuesday. The new "Winds of Winter" chapter was written from Arianne Martell's perspective.
"We've also changed the 'WINDS OF WINTER' sample on my website, replacing the Alayne chapter that's been there for the past year with one featuring Arianne Martell," Martin wrote on his Live Journal. "You want to know what the Sand Snakes, Prince Doran, Areo Hotah, Ellaria Sand, Darkstar, and the rest will be up to in 'WINDS OF WINTER?' Quite a lot, actually."
Martell is the firstborn daughter and heir of the Dornish Prince Doran. She has not appeared in "Game of Thrones" yet but there is a big possibility that she will be coming to the show soon.
The new "Winds of Winter" chapter talked about the princess' journey across the countryside. She is sent on a mission by her father to find the truth about a man claiming to be Aegon Targaryen, the son of Elia Martell who is believed to be dead.
Martin has also clarified that the new chapter does not mean that the "Winds of Winter" release date is near. "The sample will give you a taste. For the rest, you will need to wait," he added.
"And no, just to spike any bulls--t rumors, changing the sample chapter does NOT mean I am done... Monkey is still on my back... but he's growing, he is, and one day..."
According to Quartz, the new "WoW" chapter just showed how far "A Song of Ice and Fire" and "Game of Thrones" have diverged. As mentioned above, Arianne is not in the TV show while her father, who has just recently been killed off in the series, is still alive in the books. Apparently, this has angered fans who are becoming more and more displeased with the disconnect of the book and show.
