Officials are trying to piece together the reason behind the Asiana crash in San Francisco.
The Asiana aircraft had ascended into the sky from Shanghai, China, stopping over Seoul, South Korea, and then tried its best to land itself on the runway in San Francisco, but unfortunately resulted in a crash.
Dominic Garcia, a witness of the plane crash, had recalled seeing "a huge mushroom cloud" when the plane hit the runway.
The Asiana flight that carried 291 passengers (one of which is an infant) crashed into the runway for unknown reasons. A Seoul Asiana Airlines official stated that 61 U.S. citizens were aboard the plane while it crashed in San Francisco. Additionally, 77 South Korean citizens and 141 Chinese citizens were unfortunately involved in the incident Saturday.
Stephanie Turner, another witness of the incident, said that the airplane was approach the runway at a strange angle. When the crash happened, Turner described that at that moment she felt like she "had just seen a lot of people die."
"As we saw the approaching Asiana flight coming in, I noticed right away that the angle was wrong, that it was tilted too far back. The Angle didn't manage to straighten out and the tail broke off. It looked like the plane had completely broken apart. The flames and smoke were just billowing."
At least 22 people are in critical condition as a result of the Asiana crash in San Francisco. 2 have been found dead, while 69 people are still unaccounted, according to Reuters.
The aircraft that tore off its tail and burst into flames was an Boeing 777.
