When it was announced that a successor to Cloverfield would be hitting theaters in a few months, the whole industry was buzzing. It has been silent for years until Bad Robot and Paramount revealed that something big is coming.
It was a confidential project, one that has been carefully guarded in secrecy. Its code name "Valencia" included a cast that turns curious heads. Mary Elizabeth Winstead, John Gallagher Jr., and John Goodman makes up the prime list. It was a light at the end of the tunnel that "10 Cloverfield Lane" would be brought to life.
Director Dan Trachtenberg executed a thriller movie that stemmed from the Cloverfield mythology. Blastr has it that it allowed the genre's fans to absorb the movie without the standard marketing parade that blurs the sense of discovery.
"10 Cloverfield Lane" was a story about a woman named Michelle who wakes up after a terrible car accident, only to find herself trapped in a bunker. It got a high 90% rating in Rotten Tomatoes. Trachtenberg opens up about how shooting the movie in a narrative way is a different experience.
Will there be more Cloverfield stories popping up in the future? Trachtenberg didn't say. He already has something lined up in Los Angeles, which is an episode of Netflix's "Black Mirror." He is also returning to some movies he previously worked on prior to "10 Cloverfield Lane." But he did say that, "Certainly, more of Michelle's story would be awesome as well, and all of it is on the table for me."
Would that mean the world will be seeing Michelle again? The last people saw of her was when she made the ultimate decision to fight and not flee when she reached a cross road. It was a decision that could just may well be another Cloverfield story.
