During the 2016 Global Entrepreneurship Summit, Facebook CEO and founder Mark Zuckerberg attended the event and said something that stirred many entrepreneurs. This happened amidst the upheaval during the United Kingdom's vote to leave the European Union.
Many felt hopeless and some still choose to remain hopeful. In Zuckerberg's words, he said: "The world needs your creativity and your energy and your vision."
Those were his opening remarks. According to Entrepreneur, he talked about the process of global integration. He referred to the subject as a way that works for everyone and not just for some people. At the Global Entrepreneurship Summit, he points out some key points.
"I believe we are better off in a world where we are trading and networking and communicating and sharing ideas. That also means that cultures are colliding and sometimes that's disruptive and people get worried. You're the bridge. You're the glue," he explained.
In the end, President Barack Obama asked Zuckerberg regarding this view about Facebook. Would Facebook create a platform for entrepreneurs around the world? Zuckerberg responded with: "Entrepreneurship is about creating change, not just creating companies."
He recalled that his mission was to give every user a voice and bring people together. He was able to do that and stresses that having internet creates stronger connectivity.
Aside from Mark Zuckerberg, he was joined by Mai Medhat. Medhat is the co-founder of Eventtus. Eventtus is a mobile platform for events organization. Jean Bosco Nzeyimana also attended the panel. Jean is a Rwandan co-founder and CEO of Habona unlimited. Habona is a startup that transforms biological waste into environmentally friendly fuel end products. Lastly, Mariana Costa Checa also attended. Mariana is the founder of Laboratoria, a company dedicated to training women to code.
For Zuckerberg, getting connected is the key for a successful entrepreneurship. And a successful entrepreneurship is all about creating change.
