Fans are already waiting for "The Vampire Diaries season 8" to come back on the air. Even with the absence of Nina Dobrev as Elena Gilbert on the show, fans are still thinking she may just come back. After all, she is stuck in a casket for the next few decades until the spell wears off.
So is the Nina Dobrev and Ian Somerhalder romance coming back for "The Vampire Diaries season 8"? The reunion between the two has been one of the most followed in the celebrity world. Followers of the supernatural series have wished for them to be back together and alive. Season seven is the first season to not feature Nina Dobrev as Elena Gilbert following her departure from the series after the season six finale. On March 11, 2016, The CW renewed "The Vampire Diaries" for an eighth season.
Since Dobrev's absence, it was noted that the show's ratings have fallen.
Fans believe that Elena is coming back but news have surfaced that the reunion may not happen and that this is just all for hype to increase the show's ratings.
Although they did hear Dobrev's voice in the season finale of VD 7, still, it was not enough to calm the fandom. According to an interview with TV Line, show runner Plec said that it is hard to bring Dobrev back to the show. "In my opinion, she was very clear about what she wanted the next step in her life to be, and she's doing a great job of achieving that. So I'm sticking with my side of the plan, which is to bring her back at the very end."
Dobrev left VD in 2015 to pursue other aspects of her career. Her voice in the season 7 finale was not a confirmed possibility of her coming back but fans still hope that she will come back on "The Vampire Diaries Season 8."
