A first look at "King Arthur" movie 2016 cast Charlie Hunnam and Jude Law's characters have been unveiled. "King Arthur: Legend of the Sword" is slated for release on Mar. 24, 2017.
Speaking to EW, "King Arthur" movie 2016 cast Charlie Hunnam shared his thoughts on his character. "He's a bit rough around the edges, but he's basically a survivor," he said. "There's definitely a harder edge than people would imagine."
"Sherlock Holmes" star Jude Law is taking on the role of King Arthur's tyrannical uncle, Vortigern. He is the murderer of his brother and Arthur's dad Uther Pendragon, played by Eric Bana.
The images showed the "King Arthur" movie 2016 cast in medieval garb. Jude Law's character was shown extending his arm in a halting position. He appears to be using his magical powers. A worried-looking Charlie Hunnam is featured in another photo.
The film is directed by Guy Ritchie. He and Lionel Wigram's productions company recently landed a multiple-year overall deal with Endemol Shine Studios.
History Extra noted that King Arthur's legend has been passed down through the generations by word of mouth. Apparently, Uther Pendragon fell in love with Igraine, the beautiful wife of Gorlois, Duke of Cornwall.
"Uther is determined to have Igraine for himself and so, with the help of the wizard Merlin, assumes the image of Gorlois and tricks his way into Gorlois' castle at Tintagel," Miles Russell, senior lecturer in prehistoric and Roman archaeology at Bournemouth University, said. "And it is here, Geoffrey tells us, that Arthur is conceived."
According to The Hollywood Reporter, they will be focusing on creating original scripted franchises for the international TV market. This is the pair's first exclusive TV pact under their production banner.
"Guy and Lionel's brand is undeniable for this new global marketplace," Sharon Hall of Endemol Shine Studios said. "We have already identified projects that extend that brand into TV with the same smarts and swagger they are well known for."
