The fort worth couple was jut driving back home when they discovered that the wrong house has been demolished by the city. And that house was their own.

The Underwoods had been away from their house for a few weeks and had turned off the utilities, which was one of the justifications the city used to make their mistake more reasonably accepted. The city officials have asked David and Valarie Underwood to compensate them for their lost.

The 1300 square-foot house was valued at $82,000, having been a house that belonged to his family since 1951, while his grandmother was still alive.

"We rounded the corner and my wife, Valerie, says, 'The house is gone, David.' I'm looking at the yard, so I looked and I'm like, 'Wow, OK.' "

The house was leveled and the only structure left was the concrete foundation that it rested on. The city claimed their mistake was due to an incorrect address provided to the demolition contractors.

Officials stated, "On July 12, 2013, contractors demolished the wrong property on Watercress Drive. The property to be demolished should have been 9708 Watercress Dr. The property that was demolished was a vacant structure located at 9716 Watercress Drive."

A neighbor of the Underwoods claimed that similar mistakes have happened, and that was the reason why it was important for him to keep his house in good shape.

Underwood, however, is not too saddened by the lost of his home and his personal possessions, as he has another home in the city.

"I see people every day who have it so bad. I still have a house. It's not like I'm living in a cardboard box down by the river."
