Aside from facing new and old enemies, Oliver Queen is confronted with even bigger troubles in "Arrow" Season 5. Among many things, Oliver is trying to figure out what kind of legacy he will impart to the world and whether he will return to killing the baddies again.
"Arrow" Season 5 has officially kicked off and Oliver has already found himself in hot water. Interestingly, viewers got a first-look at the Russia flashbacks and the Bratva. In that particular flashback, Oliver kills an opponent in an underground fight club in Russia. As reward, Oliver asks for intel on Kovar instead of some money. A Bratva member comes up and knocks him unconscious.
Oliver once vowed that he will not kill villains anymore, but things may begin to change given everything what's happened in his life, particularly Laurel's death. In the new "Arrow" Season 5 trailer, Oliver's younger sister show's disbelief at the idea of his brother going back to being a killing machine.
"Putting killing on the table is a huge step backwards. That's not what she would have wanted," Thea says in the trailer.
"Arrow" executive producer Wendy Mericle addressed Oliver's methods in an interview with TV Guide, saying killing is something Oliver might want to consider if it's the only way to keep people from danger.
"People can die out there... If he's not willing to go to that place, he shouldn't be out there at all," Mericle explained. "He's going to be looking back at what he's done and what he's accomplished and he's assessing that."
Part of Oliver's realizations this season is his desire to help out and train a group of vigilantes. To ensure the safety of the city even further, Oliver has gather a group of ragtag recruits that include Wild Dog, portrayed by Rick Gonzalez, and Artemis, played by returning star Madison McLaughlin.
"For both Oliver and Diggle, they've been doing this for a few years now," Mericle told TVLine. "In a way, they're the elder statesmen of vigilantism, and they are going to find a way to embrace that role."
"Arrow" Season 5 airs every Thursday on The CW.
