Samsung has just issued a worldwide stoppage of its flagship Galaxy Note7 smartphone after several reports on the defects of its batteries.

In a statement released by Samsung Electronics, the company said that while they're investigating the reports, they will ask all global carrier-partners to stop sales and exchanges of the Galaxy Note7.

"We are working with relevant regulatory bodies to investigate the recently reported cases involving the Galaxy Note7. Because consumers' safety remains our top priority, Samsung will ask all carrier and retail partners globally to stop sales and exchanges of the Galaxy Note7 while the investigation is taking place," Samsung said on their official statement.

Samsung added that they will be working diligently with appropriate regulatory authorities to resolve the situation. While the investigation is taking place, Samsung said that holders of Samsung Galaxy Note7 should power down and stop using the device and take advantage of the available remedies.

The Verge said that one of the remedies that consumers may take is to immediately return the smartphone and ask for refund at the place of purchase or to have it replaced by another Samsung smartphone model.

The same news outlet said that Samsung's spokesperson for the US Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) has issued a statement that the call to global carrier-partners to stop sales and exchanges of Galaxy Note7 is not a recall (at this time), instead, it is officially a "government warning from the Chairman" of the Commission.

However, the Commission recognized Samsung's move of calling for the stoppage of sales and exchange of Note7. "It is the right move for Samsung to suspend the sale and exchange of all Galaxy Note 7s," Chairman Elliot Kaye said, The Verge reported.

Last month, Samsung started a global replacement program for the Galaxy Note7 for the precautionary measures. It could be remembered that DJ Koh, President of Mobile Communications Business, Samsung Electronics said that they are expediting the replacement of the devices for the convenience of the consumers and in compliance with the rules and regulations.
