Microsoft returned to New York City this week and hosted a special press event on October 26th. While Microsoft held a similar event last year in October, this year's event included less hardware but more on Windows software, 3D creativity and gaming update. Speaking of creativity, Windows launched the new Surface Studio, an all-in-one PC!

Table top working stations are creations we have all seen before, but Microsoft is convinced to have set the Surface Studio uniquely apart with Surface Dial- a haptic accessory. The touch-friendly dial is designed to sit beside your keyboard for fine contextual controls and can interact with various programs. Art lovers can put the dial directly on the screen to use it as a rotary selector dial during drawing.

As you might have guessed it, this new feature comes with an addition of $100 since it's sold separately. In addition to the Surface Studio, it'll work with the Surface Book and the Surface Pro 4 so it might just be worth it.

The Surface Studio has the following hardware details

  • a sixth-gen Intel i5/i7 Core processor,
  • a 4GB Nvidia GeForce GPU,
  • up to 32GB of RAM and a 2TB hard drive.

Together with a single dedicated power cable, Surface Studio packs an Ethernet port, four USB 3.0 jacks, a Mini DisplayPort, and an SD card slot.

Apart from this New release from Microsoft, other updates included

VR headsets for Windows

'HoloLens' is one of the projects Microsoft has been pushing hard on. As a closer step towards that, the Company announced the launching of more traditional VR headsets from Microsoft partners. Naming HP, Dell, Lenovo, Asus and Acer, we should expect to see the launching VR headsets to work with Windows 10 soon.

Using HoloTour, Microsoft demonstrated that these new VR would support 3D environments created in Windows 10. These headsets are estimated to cost about $299, but we still have a lot to know about their specifications.

What we shouldn't expect.

  • The Company has suspended its potential Band 3 hardware
  • Microsoft has reduced its phone operations, so it's not clear whether or not the company will create a Surface Phone.
