‘Carry This Book’: 'Broad City Star' Abbi Jacobson’s X-Ray Imagination On Famous People’s Bags

Do you want to see what famous people carry? ‘Broad City’ star Abbi Jacobson releases new illustration book ‘Carry This Book’--- Her x-ray imagination gives fantasized bag contents of Oprah, Trump, Batman and more.
Abbi Jacobson’s generous talent extends to acting, directing and writing. She co-creates and co-stars a web series, ‘Broad City’ with Ilana Glazer. She grew up in Pennsylvania soon moved to study at Maryland Institute College of Art., she took up fine arts and video production. New York enticed her where she moved to begin classes with Atlantic Theater Company and Upright Citizens Brigade Theater; here she met Ilana.
According to Refinery29 in Jacobson’s interview, her writing stints began as,"I made two Color This Book coloring books in 2013, one for San Francisco and one for New York City. The coloring book craze is sort of out of control right now, but mine came out before that happened and before Broad City. I was itching to do another coloring book or something. Penguin was interested in doing an illustrated book, which I’ve always wanted to do.”
The new illustration book, ‘Carry This Book,' became apparent as she wrote for ‘Broad City.' She gained her inspiration from Tim O’brien’s‘The Things They Carried’ the same concept of people’s belonging make them who they are motivated her. She added, “What we carry around can really give a lot of information about ourselves.”
The book gives new heights to its famous characters such as Bernie Madoff who packs expensive pens and memos, Willy Wonka who has a lot of to-do list and even Val; her alter ego in her web series, who owns a pair of tights, long cigarettes, pearl earrings, and a top hat.
Jacobson’s illustration didn’t fall short on quirkiness----Carry This Book, a masterpiece of new material-comedy. It brings a fresh look of warmth and fun, impressive visuals speaks of style and texture.
Vox puts it as, ‘Carry This Book’ just gave her a distinction no artist like her can earn.
