The word is out that Bob Dylan accepts the Nobel Prize and is going to Stockholm personally to receive the award.
This is the first time that an American is being given an award for literature by the Swedish Academy. Dylan has expressed his acceptance of the award but has not signified if he is coming to personally receive the award in Stockholm.
Sara Danius, Secretary of the Academy said that Dylan called the academy saying that he was speechless after hearing the news.
As present, there is no certainty if Dylan will go to Stockholm events for Nobel event in December. Danius said that the academy will do their best to give Dylan a schedule that suits him.
Observers have noted that in precious awards Dylan received, he accepted them but was not eager to accept the award in person. They hope that when Dylan accepts the Nobel Prize he also commit to attend the Nobel Prize event in Stockholm.
A member of the Academy said that when Dylan was informed he received the award, he was silent, so he thought Dylan might be impolite and conceited.
The coveted prize was given by the Academy "for having created new poetic expressions within the great American song tradition."
In the past, Dylan was given many awards, one of which was the Presidential Medal of Freedom, which he personally accepted in a 2012 ceremony at the White House. In the awards he was given, he always took time to confirm his acceptance.
The American Academy of Arts and Letters had voted him into its fold in 2013, and he became an honorary member of the academy. The notice was given on January 2013 but Dylan only responded on May 2013.
If Dylan accepts the Nobel Prize personally, it won't be the first time he receives an award in Stockholm. He personally received the Polar Music Prize from King Gustav XVI in 2000.
