The award-winning "Civilization" series by Sid Meier has just gotten it's 6th installment and a lot of gamers will be staying up late for a few weeks. "Civilization 6" brings back the old as well as a lot of news. For those who are new to the game (as well as "Civilization" veterans) here are some tips and tricks to get gamers started in their empire building.
City Planning is a Must
One new thing about "Civilization 6" is the addition of urban sprawling. This means that world wonders and some specialty buildings will take up tiles near a city. This makes city planning an integral part of the game, unlike the previous civilization.
This puts the strategy back to strategy gaming. Each city is limited to one district per citizens which will make you have to decide what type of specialty your city will have.
You have to learn about adjacency bonuses for each district type. An example is that by putting a commercial hub adjacent to a river tile would result in bonuses. So this means that unlike the previous game when choosing to settle gamers will have to consider the entire radius that a city will cover.
Here is a nifty cheat sheet from Reddit that maps out the adjacency bonuses.
Amenities and Housing
Amenities can hinder as well as boost your city's productivity. Basically, your city would need to have a score of at least 0 for your city to keep functioning normally. To boost your Amenities score, build wonders, religious buildings, parks, an entertainment complex, and have great people in the city.
Housing, on the other hand, is needed to continually grow the city's population. Players will need to build farms, pastures, plantations or an aqueduct district.
Trade up
Having a lot of resources to trade is now an integral part of a city's survival. A good rule of thumb is to have a diverse range of resources to trade with other civilizations or the gamer's own cities. The goods that a gamer gets should correspond to the districts that he built withing the city.
"Civilization 6" also put a stop to the automate function for workers/builders. Players can now only have workers do three jobs before they disappear. So players should choose what to build wisely.
