The world of boxing was stunned on Saturday as Manny Pacquiao won via unanimous decision against Jessie Vargas. He reclaimed the WBO welterweight title from Vargas in 12 rounds of action and now people are asking for more. Top Rank promoter Bob Arum said that people would definitely see the Pacman again in spring, expressing that a Pacquiao and Mayweather rematch could certainly happen.
Pacquiao was heavily criticized by people after his biggest loss to Manuel Marquez back in 2012, where he was knocked out by the Mexican boxer. It was the fight that made Pacquiao lose his mark as one of the top contenders in boxing. Critics say that Pacquiao should've just retired especially when he lost a controversial fight to his biggest rival, Floyd Mayweather.
After being elected to the Philippine senate back in May, Pacquiao came out from a short retirement and prepared for a fight with Vargas. The Filipino boxer/senator showed signs of brilliance as he outclassed his opponent winning via unanimous decision with a score of 114-113, 118-111, 118-111.
At 37, Pacquiao proved critics that he still has some gas left in the tank. After his fight, reporters asked him if there is a possibility of a Pacquiao and Mayweather rematch. According to the Los Angeles Times, "If the rematch happens, I want to make sure the fans love it," Pacquiao said.
Will a Pacquiao and Mayweather rematch happen? According to ESPN, Bob Arum stated that the fight is not far from happening and he is 75 percent sure that both fighters will face each other in spring. Mayweather hasn't expressed his sentiments about the rematch yet since retiring last year after his win against Andre Berto.
Pacquiao invited Mayweather to his fight and Speculations arose when Mayweather showed up with his daughter on Pacquiao's fight on Saturday. Mayweather's presence ignited fans to look forward to a Pacquiao and Mayweather rematch.
With the two boxers still in top shape, a Pacquiao and Mayweather rematch is inevitable. Is this going to be another blockbuster moment for the boxing world?
