Lindsay Lohan appears to be doing a lot better after garnering praises from all ends in her hosting stint for Chelsea Lately last Monday, leading to over 48% boost from last year's average viewing rate.
Nearly 578,000 viewers tuned in as the comeback starlet took the stage from her opening monologue, to interviewing Orphan Black's Dylan Bruce all the way to cracking self-deprecating jokes, which critics note as "expected [but] the appearance is noteworthy for her candid goofiness,"
As a starter, she opened with jokes thanking "celebrities who kept the tabloid industry alive" while she was in rehab, like Yeezus star Kanye West, Justin Bieber, controversial politician Anthony Weiner and the royal baby. Critics and fans share that it's evident the starlet is having genuine fun and doing far better than her 2012 failed SNL stint.
LiLo then jokes about Kirsten Stewart's recent clash with the paparazzi, "I'm just excited that Kristen Stewart finally showed some emotion." She later puts the joke on herself by asking the audience, "How come when Kanye acts like an idiot he gets a gold record, but when I act like an idiot I get a police record?" and also cracked one about gossip circling about One Direction's Harry Styles' bi-sexual relationship with a DJ quipping, "Been there!".
While some of the jokes were not as laugh as loud, fans that have been rooting for Lindsay Lohan since 2004 are more than happy to see that underneath all the drama and the constant drug-related bashing she gets, there's still the charming lady who jokes about herself.
Lindsay closes the taped show saying, "I'm proud to have hosted the first episode in 'Chelsea Lately' history that did not feature a salacious headline about Lindsay Lohan."
After the jokes and the laughs, LiLo is set to delve into more serious matters with recent mentor Oprah on their mini-documentary series to be aired on OWN while the renowned host's interview with the post-rehab star will be shown on August 18.
