"Iron Man 3" remains one of the biggest hit and money maker for Marvel Studios. So it is a bit of a surprise that Robert Downey is not keen on making another one. But if the producers can somehow lure Mel Gibson unto the director's chair, then fans may get to see another "Iron Man" adventure.
As per Jobs & Hire, most Marvel movies like "Thor" are getting new sequels. Everyone except the "Iron Man" franchise is developing something. So fans are really bothered if they will ever see everyone's favorite tech superhero in another solo flick.
According to Australia Network News, when Downey was asked about the possibility of an "Iron Man 4," the leading man gave a very disappointing answer, "I don't think that's in the cards. In a way, it's Cap 3 but for me, it's like my little Iron Man 4 and then it's back to the thing we all recognize."
But according to the same site, Robert Downey left a little crack open for the possibility of another sequel. But in order for it to happen, he needs someone quite unlikely to helm the movie - Mel Gibson.
While some might say that this is just a way of Downey to tell the world that he has no intention of ever making another "Iron Man" movie, Downey Jr. and Gibson are actually friends. Gibson has been instrumental for Downey Jr returning to stardom.
Furthermore, according to Movie Web, Mel Gibson seems to be open to the idea of being the director of "Iron Man 4." Regarding the issue, this is what the talented actor and filmmaker have to say, "It might be fun. You'd have to figure out a way to be different with that."
While it was not exactly a solid yes, the fact remains that Gibson is open to make another "Iron Man" movie. And if he does pull the trigger on that, he could repair quite a bit of his tarnished reputation. At the end of the day, Mel Gibson and the Marvel fanatics will both win if "Iron Man 4" does indeed get made.
