LONDON - British singer Adele Adkins is in negotiations for her acting debut, sources say. The film the 'Skyfall' singer is rumored to star in is an espionage thriller starring fellow British artist Colin Firth and veteran actor Samuel L. Jackson.
Matthew Vaugh, the director of 'X-Men: First Class' will be handling the project titled 'The Secret Service'. 'The Secret Service' is based on the novel with the same title written by Mark Millar -the man behind 'Kick-Ass'.
A source told reporters Sunday that, "Adele is exactly what Matthew is looking," when the 'Someone Like You' singer was rumored to play the role of the villain in the film.
The multi-instrumentalist, singer/songwriter is the right one for the job, sources say. A source from the office of Vaugh told reporters that, "He wants the highest-profile names in various fields to boost the film's cause and turn it into a mega-money franchise."
The 25-year-old Adele started her acting role in a cameo in American Ferrera's 'Ugly Betty' in 2009. Just this year, the English singer won an Oscar for 'Skyfall' -the theme of the most current James Bond film.
Fans of the singer are excited about her film debut. Adele Laurie Blue Adkins got the attention of XL Recordings after seeing her demo online in the year 2006. Two years later, she was awarded the BBC Sound of 2008. On that same year, Adele released her debut album and gained critical success. It is a four time platinum album in the United Kingdom and a double platinum in the United States.
Her singing career in the United States took off after her appearance in Saturday Night Live when she released her debut album. By 2009, the singer/songwriter attended the 2009 Grammy Awards and became the Best Female Pop Vocal Performance. She was also awarded the Best New Artist title on the same night. It was 2011 when Adele came out with a second album titled '21'.
