The friendship of Eddie Redmayne and Benedict Cumberbatch dates back to 2008 when they both appeared in the movie “The Other Boleyn Girl” as husbands of the same woman. Recently, Redmayne talked about how the two of them live almost parallel lives.
First, both of them are established superstar actors who, at present, are playing roles as wizards in separate movie films. Eddie Redmayne stars in “Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them” while Benedict Cumberbatch plays a sorcerer’s role in “Doctor Strange”. Most people will call this coincidence but there’s more.
After playing the roles as husbands to the same woman, played by Scarlett Johanson in “the Other Woman” film, their paths crossed again in 2014 where Redmayne starred in Stephen Hawkings’ “ The Theory of Everything. The same role was played by Benedict Cumberbatch in a 2004 movie entitled “Hawking”.
These coincidences keep fans of both actors amused but there’s still more. Just last year, both got married to their respective sweethearts and were nominated for Oscar Awards, the first for both. Their marriage was only two months apart and both have become fathers at about the same time.
What Eddie Redmayne remembers is the time when he was casted in the Stephen Hawkings’ Movie. His pal Cumberbatch texted him from Redmayne’s old school, Harrow, dressed as Stephen Hawkings at a black board where Eddie’s name was written.
According to Movie News Guide, Redmayne is grateful to have a friend he can come to and ask advice on how to go about many things in the movie industry. In the past, he particularly had asked Cumberbatch how the multitudes of fans are handled and was grateful for his assistance.
Just recently, at the both appeared with Bryan Cranston on the Graham Norton show. Redmayne played the magician and Cumerbatch his assistant. After the show, news of the two wizards appearing together hit the headlines.
