"Pokemon Go" developer Niantic has launched successive updates for the location-based augmented reality game. These updates caused quite a stir to Pokemon Trainers as Niantic increased the powers of some creatures while giving out double XP. Also, the newest Pokemon, Ditto, has been caught in disguise.
Niantic has been very busy this week. The game developer released 2 new updates for the game, introduced a new "Pokemon," and revamped two features in pre-selected areas in an effort to make "Pokemon Go" more enjoyable.
Last November 21, 2016, Niantic released an update that changed the Combat Power (CP) of a number of creatures. According to an official blog post from "Pokemon GO" the changes are part of the developer's initiative to provide a "more balanced and competitive battling and training experience in Gyms."
Gamespot reports that Niantic wants to show its appreciation to fans for their support since the launch of "Pokemon Go" in July 2016. The "Pokemon Go" developer started handing out twice the amount of XP and Stardust since November 23, 2016. The double XP reward will run until November 30, 2016.
The "Pokemon Go" team also announced via its official Facebook account that they have made changes in some of its features. The changes in the game's "Nearby" feature and "Sighting" feature are now live in selected areas in the United States of America and Canada, while gamers in Australia can enjoy the revamped features.
Finally, Ditto, the latest "Pokemon" to be introduced in "Pokemon GO" has finally arrived. However, the trainers were the ones caught off guard when they got Ditto. Ditto is masquerading itself as other "Pokemon" such as Rattatas, Pidgeys, Spearows, and Magikarp. For the uninitiated, Ditto has the ability to copy other "Pokemon" when in a gym battle.
These updates are expected to give "Pokemon GO" some breathing room from their competitors. Supercell, developer of the games "Clash Royale" and "Clash of Clans" is reportedly inching closer to the release of its December 2016 update for "Clash of Clans." It is rumored that Supercell is aiming to dislodge "Pokemon GO" as the number 1 mobile game in 2016.
Whether "Pokemon GO" relinquishes the top spot or not, the competition this intense will only bring out the best in Niantic and Supercell. And with both developers trying to become the alpha dogs of the mobile gaming industry, players of the respective games will be the ones who will benefit the most.
