Halle Berry and Jennifer Garner teamed up last Tuesday as they faced the Assembly Judiciary Committee in support of SB606, a bill that will impose graver penalties to photographers who continue to harass celebrities, especially their children.
It is already the second appearance of Halle Berry, who is currently pregnant and sharing her horrific stories of the paparazzi constantly yelling out her name and taking photos. She shares that her daughter is now terrified to go to school because of the stalking photographers. One photographer even asked Berry's child, "How do you feel, Nahla? You may not see your father again. How do you feel about that?"
"As mothers, as parents, we don't have the wherewithal or the law in place right now to protect them from this," Berry says. "What this bill would do is give us our rights back so that we can protect our children." as reported by The Daily News. Jennifer Garner chokes and fights back the tears welling up her eyes as she pleas for protection against the paparazzi who follow her and her three children around every day.
The Thirteen Going on Thirty star tells the committee, "I love my kids," and continues, "They're beautiful and sweet and innocent. And I don't want a gang of shouting, arguing, law-breaking photographers, who camp out everywhere we are, every day, to continue traumatizing my kids."
Paparazzo Henry Flores shots back saying, "They have to take responsibility for what they do. You cannot be in a paparazzi hot zone and expect not to get photographed. It's ridiculous. It's kind of like going into the crocodile's den and expecting not to get eaten."
The bill, constituted by Sen. Kevin de Leon passed without opposition and is not set for the Appropriations Committee.
